Kuala Lumpur, Wednesday, 8 April 2020 – The Life Insurance Association of Malaysia (LIAM), Persatuan Insurans Am Malaysia (PIAM) and the Malaysian Takaful Association (MTA) have finalised the operational details of the COVID-19 Test Fund (CTF) to benefit medical insurance policyholders and takaful certificate holders nationwide. Earlier the insurance and takaful industry has pledged RM8 million to set up the fund which is in support of the Ministry of Health’s efforts to conduct more COVID-19 tests for Malaysians. LIAM is leading the initiative with a RM5 million contribution while PIAM and MTA have pledged RM2 million and RM1 million respectively.
The fund will subsidize the costs of the test for policyholders who are most at risk for COVID-19 enabling more Malaysians to undergo the test including healthcare front liners, Persons under Investigation (PUI) and those who are at risk of being infected with the virus. The reimbursement is up to a maximum of RM300 per test (one reimbursement per individual). Based on this amount, the fund is able to support more than 26,600 tests.
All group/individual medical and health insurance policyholders and takaful certificates holders who have been referred by registered doctors to undergo COVID-19 tests at recognised private labs listed on the Health Ministry’s COVID-19 website are eligible. The funding is available for tests done from 27 March 2020 onwards. The insurance policy or takaful certificate must be in force as of 27 March 2020 and at the time the test is conducted.
The portal MyCTF website www.MyCTF.my is launched today, 8 April 2020 with information on Eligibility, FAQs, Claims Guide as well as a downloadable Claim Form. Policyholders and certificate holders will be able to submit their claims online via the portal from Saturday, 11 April 2020 onwards. A nationwide 24/7 toll free call centre will be operational from Wednesday, 8 April 2020. The public can make general enquiries by dialling the hotline number at 15500 or 1-300-22-11-88.
According to the President of LIAM, Ms Loh Guat Lan the life insurance and takaful industry is mobilising its efforts to help the nation by setting up the CTF. “Together with our member companies, LIAM, PIAM and MTA have joint efforts and within a week since the announcement on the CTF on 1 April 2020, we quickly operationalise this nationwide initiative in support of the Ministry of Health and we are targeting to conduct more than 26,600 tests on Malaysians. This would further help the nation to contain the COVID-19 virus from spreading.”
Chairman of PIAM, Mr Antony Lee added, “In these times of crisis, general insurers and reinsurers are rallying together to decisively answer the call for help at this hour of need for the nation. As with past challenges the insurance industry is confident that we will get through this together and our country will emerge stronger from it.”
