With reference to the press release entitled “Exemption on Licensing Renewals of Private Motor Vehicles and Competent Driving Licenses (Excluding Vocational Licenses) From 1 Feb To 31 Mar 2021” issued by Ministry of Transport Malaysia (MOT) on 29 January 2021 (Link: https://cddigitaldev.com/piam/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/PRESS-STATEMENT-YBM-MOT-EXEMPTION-ON-LICENSING-RENEWALS-OF-PRIVATE-MOTOR-VEHICLES-AND-CDL-29012021.pdf ), PIAM wishes to clarify that although there is an exemption on licensing renewals, consumers are advised to ensure that they continue to have a valid insurance cover for their vehicles during this period.
A valid insurance cover will ensure that you and your vehicle are protected in the event of an accident and any losses incurred will be covered by your insurance company as per the terms and conditions of your insurance contract.
Member companies of PIAM are working to ensure that all aspects of valid insurance protection to policyholders are not affected during this period. To minimize direct human interaction and curb the COVID-19 pandemic, we strongly encourage the public to adopt digital platforms as a form of communication with all insurers and agents either via e-payment, direct distribution channel and other online platforms.
For renewal of motor insurance consumers should use online platforms to do so. PIAM advises all motorists to contact their respective insurers who will be able to render assistance on their renewal.
For claims matters, consumers should report all events giving rise to claims to respective insurers who remain accessible either via branches, call centres, electronic means including fax, email, social media or etc.
For further information or clarifications, consumers may visit PIAM’s website www.piam.org.my or email your queries to pic@piam.org.my.
PIAM urges all parties to comply fully with instructions issued by the authorities while the Movement Control Order (MCO) is in force. Any further enquiries on the MCO may be directed to the National Operation Management Centre at 03-8888 2010.
