Kuala Lumpur, 15 March 2019 – The General Insurance Association of Malaysia (PIAM) wishes to assure the victims affected by the toxic dumping incident in Pasir Gudang, Johor that our member companies are ready to assist and serve them, where applicable.

We wish to inform the public that a standard medical policy will cover hospitalisation and medical treatment. Policy holders requiring medical attention as a result of this incident may file a claim under their respective medical policy.

Where properties are concerned, generally, a standard Houseowner and Householder Policy provides cover for physical loss or damage to property, bodily injury and life.

However, as the circumstances of each case/claim are different we advise that policyholders contact their respective insurance agents and/or insurance companies to obtain the exact details of their coverage.

For the information of the public, regardless of whether an emergency is declared or not, PIAM member companies will compensate the insured as long as it is a legitimate claim.
