ABOUT GENERAL INSURANCE AGENTS CONVENTION (GIAC) 2016

PIAM’s inaugural General Insurance Agents Convention (GIAC) 2016 is an important event for the industry and brings together top performing agents representing all member companies of PIAM.

Themed “Distribution in a Liberalised Environment”, the GIAC was held on 4 Aug 2016 at Connexion@Nexus, Bangsar South City. It was timely given the recent announcement on the Phased Liberalisation Roadmap by Bank Negara Malaysia.

This event is a central communications forum and platform for general insurance agents nationwide. Industry speakers provided strategic insights and shared valuable experience on how to succeed in an open market while a high level Panel Discussion comprising CEOs of companies discussed the key issues and the expected outcomes of liberalisation, as well as the expanded roles of intermediaries and diversified delivery channels.

Attached are the presentations from the speakers at the event.

  • Keynote Address by Guest of Honour, Ms Jessica Chew, Assistant Governor of Bank Negara Malaysia
  • Market Liberalisation – A Race to the Bottom?, by Mark Lingafelter, Regional Managing Director Asia Pacific of QBE Group
  • Industry Performance and Update on Phased Liberalisation, by Mark Lim, CEO of PIAM
  • Impact of Social Media & Bid Data on Distribution by Mr Roshan Perera, Partner of NMG Consulting

  • Thriving in a Competitive Insurance Market – An Agent’s Perspective, by Mr Lawrence Lim, President of Association of Singapore Insurance Agents (ASIA)

Going forward, the GIAC will be positioned as a flagship event for the industry which all agents can look forward to and thereby making it a permanent feature in the insurance landscape of Malaysia.

Roadshows at four major cities nationwide, namely Johor Bahru, Penang, Kota Kinabalu and Kuching had been organised for agents who are not able to attend the main convention in Kuala Lumpur.
